José María Carbonell is a Managing Partner at CARBONELL-SANCHÍS Abogados and heads the Corporate and Commercial Law department, specialising in complex business disputes and strategic decisions with significant financial implications.

His practice focuses on disputes between shareholders, family businesses, corporate reorganisation processes, mid-market M&A transactions, and restructuring and insolvency situations, with a particular emphasis on contexts where business continuity depends on sound legal structuring and a well-defined business strategy.

He advises companies and family groups on corporate deadlocks, shareholder exits, shareholders’ agreements, share transfers and business sales, as well as pre-insolvency and insolvency proceedings. In these matters, his approach integrates legal analysis with a vision aimed at preserving value, minimising risks and ensuring future stability.

He regularly advises boards of directors and governing bodies on critical decision-making, with a particular focus on directors’ liability, contingency planning and the proactive management of disputes.

His approach combines proactive legal advice, strategic management of complex negotiations and legal representation in highly technical proceedings.

He holds a Law Degree, a Master’s in Corporate Legal Advice from the Foundation for Stock Market and Financial Studies, and an Executive MBA from the Valencia Chamber of Commerce. He combines his professional practice with teaching as a lecturer on the Official Master’s Degree in Corporate Legal Advice (Foundation for Stock Market and Financial Studies – CEU Cardenal Herrera University) and regularly participates as a speaker at specialist conferences on insolvency and company law.
